We have approximately 25 spots available for this event and are inviting NC folks from a variety of backgrounds–business development, project management, Web design, programming, marketing, & PR. Housing and most of the meals will be subsidized partly by sponsors, but we need an accurate head count so we can make final preparations. There will be a modest registration fee of approximately $99 to cover some of the costs not being covered via local sponsorship, but housing and most meals and snacks are provided. Startup Weekend is an conference unlike any you’ve attended before–over the course of a single weekend, you get to take time out from your current venture/business and practice building a new one. Over the course of the weekend, ideas are pitched, teams are formed, and new companies conceptualized, built, and launched! Each person improvises using their own instruments and style to create something entirely new and wonderful–all in one brief session. You’re not judged (unless you judge) and learning is paramount. It’s an awesome three days of networking, team building, coding, business planning and pitching (with some added cocktails and food). AND, this particular SW is being hosted in beautiful Holden Beach, North Carolina

The 1st Holden Beach Startup Weekend saw the birth of two new companies–BoomClickaBoom (http://twitter.com/boomclickaboom) and Paid2Perfect. BoomClickaBoom has continued to thrive since Startup Weekend Holden Beach V.1 and has participated in two StartupHB Splinter Cell retreat weekends since. Splinter Cell weekends are incubator style events that the StartupHB team introduced this year to mentor infant companies during their first months.

One of the companies that started this weekend at Holden Beach Startup Weekend was PaidToPerfect. PaidToPerfect is a company that helps publishers improve their online content quality by wikitizing their blogs, websites and online publications. PaidToPerfect “editors” clean up content anywhere on the Web & get paid to contribute!

BoomClickaBoom is new agile software development company that started this weekend at Holden Beach Startup Weekend. The team is developing two projects over the weekend and are nearly done with the first of these–PracticePlanr.

PracticePlanr is an iPhone app designed to help soccer coaches and parents plan practice schedules on the go– they can plan practices by name and date, set up the sequence of drills to run, note goals for each drill, and even draw Xs and Os on a whiteboard. PracticePlanr is designed to help maximize the productivity of team practices — easily find the next drill in your schedule with the swipe of a finger!

BoomClickaBoom is Adam Arney, Brian Auton, Tiffani Ashley Bell, Jennifer Griffin, Z.Y. Guo, Matthew McFarling, & Roy Morejon.

Brian Auton (@brianauton ) is an entrepreneur, freelance software developer, and North Carolina native.  He is passionate about creating elegant solutions to big problems, and loves meeting other entrepreneurs to share inspiration and collaborate on projects.

After earning a B.S. in computer science at Appalachian State University, Brian worked as co-founder of a web technology company in
Boone NC, using PHP and MySQL to develop solutions large and small for client websites.

More recently, he has been seeking every opportunity as a freelancers to explore a variety of technologies from advanced JavaScript web interfaces to desktop graphics programming, and to hone his skills at collaboration and rapid development by participating in new startups, most recently the online literature community Tweetasy.com.
